Road conditions app

The Colorado Department of Transportation has updated its COtrip smartphone app and website with push notifications and new language options, including Spanish and Vietnamese. A new language button is located in the upper-right corner of the map. State officials use the tool to communicate closures, road conditions and other traffic information to drivers.

Pedestrian safety

A fatal pedestrian crash and ongoing safety complaints have prompted Silverthorne officials to plan improvements at the intersection of Sixth Street and Blue River Parkway. A Silverthorne resident who attended a recent council meeting said willows, pine trees and wooden fencing sometimes block visibility for drivers ready to turn right onto the four-lane parkway. Town staff cut down some of the brush around the intersection and is working with CDOT on additional improvements.

Thrift store

Since sisters María and Elizabeth Veleta opened Second Life Thrift Store at 130 Main St. in Dillon, their inventory of donated clothes, accessories and household items has almost doubled. The Veletas recalled the financial struggle they endured when they arrived in the area over 25 years ago. Now they remain committed to providing affordable clothes for working residents of Summit County.
